After day 1 Bangers and Gracie held a 4 point lead going into day 2 of the Phaedrus wines B14 Victorian Championship.
With winds again around the 12-15 knot mark from a south easterly direction, it was expected that Bangers would continue on his way. The winds were now closer to 15 knots and more consistent. However after 3 more tight races at the head of the fleet Garmston/Newman won race 4, Ian and Dave Cunningham won race 5, and Bancroft/Grace won race 6. The rest of the fleet experienced close racing but made no positional changes amongst themselves, though Loutit and Dods did manage a 3rd and were very close to a second. This left Bangers and Gracie 4 points in front going into Day 3.
PHAEDRUS B14 VISTORIAN CHAMPIONSHIP DAY 3
Day 3 winds increased to a pleasurable 15-18 knots, with long spinnaker rides on the 2 lap course from the south-east. Reigning National Champions Garmston and Newman were not going down without a yelp. They finished off the regatta with 2 bullets which meant they could now drop their 2 worst results which was no worse than a third. Ian and Dave Cunningham also enjoyed the conditions gaining a second and third. This gave Guy Bancroft his eighth Victorian championship from the last 11 years winning by 1 point. Gracie can’t remember how many he has won, but reckons he could count them on 2 fingers.
Hamilton Nesci and H.Briggs became the official B14 Junior Victorian Title winners and showed great promise.
Out of the whole regatta, everyone enjoyed the close racing and the venue. Many thanks to SSCBC for hosting the event with their great on and off course management team. Full results can be found at sscbc.com.au
