B14 Australian National Titles 2025/6: Day 5
B14 National Championships 2025/26: Final Day 5
The final day of the B14 Australian National Titles delivered one race, and despite an early forecast of light winds, the fleet was treated to another excellent day of sailing at Midway Point.
Race 10 got underway at 13:10 in a lovely south-easterly breeze of around 13 knots. Tight tussles played out right across the fleet, with plenty of “snakes and ladders” as positions changed throughout the race. After the first lap, the windward mark was moved significantly; however, not all competitors noticed the adjustment, and several boats - including the leading group - overstood the top mark on that lap.
By the finish, the overall series leaders reasserted their dominance. Snatch (Craig Garmston & Paul Fleming) took the final gun, sealing an outstanding regatta with nine wins from ten races and an emphatic series victory. The Nude (Richie Reynolds & Lissa McMillan) finished second in the race, with Rocket Ship (Nick Richardson & Natalia Wisniewska) third, and RSC Side Effects (Renee & Rob Cordingley) fourth after sailing an excellent series.
Overall Results (Scratch):
1st – Snatch (Craig Garmston & Paul Fleming): 1-1-1-1-1-1-(3)-1-1-(1) = 8 pts
2nd – Rocket Ship (Nick Richardson & Natalia Wisniewska): 2-3-2-3-2-2-(4)-(3)-2-3 = 19 pts
3rd – The Nude (Richie Reynolds & Lissa McMillan): (6)-2-6-2-3-(16)-2-2-3-2 = 22 pts
Full overall results are listed below.
On handicap, honours went to Blown Seal (Rob Winn & Tom Carolyn) in first place, followed by Postage Stamp (Richard McMinn & Lucy Rees) in second, and Bang Bang (Scott Foster & Tony Miller) in third.
Following a highly successful championship, heartfelt thanks must go to the many volunteers who made the event possible. In particular, Commodore Michael Verrier, who spent every day on the water in a rescue boat and played a key role in delivering the regatta. Thanks also to canteen manager Marlene Nichols, who worked tirelessly throughout the week alongside Suzanne Davidson, Jo-Anne Verrier and Karen Lovering.
An outstanding effort from Helen Eggins in the start boat, wrestling wayward anchors, ably assisted by Andrew Verrier on records, with Safiya Davidson assisting and capturing photos. On the rescue boats, thanks to Michael Semelbauer, Stephen Mitchell, Shane Mathews, Stan Foster, Chris Jones, Chris Keil, Mark Donovan, Sam Bailey and Matt Gerden, with Darren Eggins providing invaluable shore support.
